Reasons to love the fruit bowl selection box

You will be amazed at how easy and delicious these fruits are to grow, and how big their crops are! At the end of the season, you will have so many punnets of your favourite fruits, and save a fortune in the supermarket too! Experience the joy of picking your own fruit which has been warmed by the summer sun, and then enjoy with your breakfast, make jam, add to your baking, or have a tasty snack while relaxing in the garden.

This selection box comes with everything you need to successfully plant and grow fruit bushes, the only additional extra you will need to purchase is the compost! This selection box has been designed especially for low maintenance growing with top quality taste. All these fruit bushes are:

·       Self- fertile (so you don’t need to worry about planting two of every plant)

·       Sturdy growers (so you don’t need canes, although for autumn bliss you may wish to use one to make picking the fruit a little easier!)

·       Reliable, heavy croppers (meaning you will get lots of fruit!)

We have already included an information pack and fertiliser to get your growing off to a great start. If you’re a new gardener, we can’t recommend fruit bushes enough as a low-maintenance and easy way to start growing your own food.

This selection box includes:

1 x Blackberry Navaho

Navaho is a self - fertile, productive variety which crops in late July and August with an upright growth habit. Perfect for easy harvesting with its upright thorn free stems. Max height. 2.5 m. Supplied in a 3L pot.

1 x Blueberry Pink Lemonade

A sweet juicy and delicious soft fruit, naturally rich in vitamins and antioxidants. A blueberry fruit bush is easy to care for and self-fertile. They also provide all year-round interest in the garden. The blush white, bell shaped flowers provide plenty of spring interest. These are then followed by pale green fruits in late summer which become dappled with pale pink and finally ripen to a deep glossy pink colour. Max height. 1.5m. Supplied in a 3L.

1 x Raspberry Autumn Bliss

This is without a doubt one of the best and most reliable autumn fruiting varieties. Bliss is a heavy cropper from late August with the highest yield coming in September. The attractive berries are large with a firm texture, and the flavour is excellent. The short, erect, spiny canes are sturdy and only need a little support. Bliss has good disease resistance to root rot. It will produce fruit on the first year of growth. Max. height: 1.5m.  Supplied in a 3L pot.

1 x Gooseberry Invicta

This heavy cropping variety produces almost double the yield of other gooseberries. It is very popular and vigorous. It produces large pale green berries, smooth skinned with an extremely sweet flavour in July and August. Essentially a culinary variety, but can also be eaten fresh. The fruit is superb for cooking with as it stays firm, and it also freezes well, maintaining shape and colour. Max height 1.5 m. Supplied in a 3L pot.

1 x Rhubarb Victoria

A long- established, popular main-crop variety producing an abundant yield of large thick red stalks. The stalks are not tough or stringy but are juicy and sweet with a tart punch! A low maintenance, self-fertile plant that is very hardy and excellent for pies and preserves. Crops lightly in the first year then regularly from the second year onwards. Will do best in a position of full sun. Max height. 1m. Supplied in a 3L pot.

1 x Fertiliser

Fish, blood and bone fertiliser is a good natural source of all three of the major nutrients that plants need. Nutrients are taken up efficiently due to a longer period of release in the soil. Being especially high in phosphorus makes it particularly good for stimulating strong, healthy root growth and increasing crop yields.

We recommend purchasing manure and ericaceous compost for planting. Instructions are included in your care pack. Please note that there can be some substitutions of particular varieties due to seasonal changes and availability.
